Good Business
Jeannette Maré founded and has been leading the Ben's Bells Project for over eight years. She successfully has made it a household name in Tucson. Her strategic planning has helped Ben's Bells grow at an incredible rate, reaching out to more and more people in the Tucson area, as well as communities nationally and internationally. Maré has been successful in organizing volunteers from across the general community and she has developed numerous programs to serve communities including Kind Kids (in 57 schools reaching 25,000+ students), Kindness Corridor (public murals to support kindness), the BENevolent Brigade (flash mob with a purpose), and most recently, Kind Colleagues (integrating kindness in our workplace). In the past few months Ben’s Bells has experienced intense growth and has received 6 awards including: Rotary Clubs of Tucson "4-Way Test Award," National Association of Social Workers (AZ) Agency of the Year, Child and Family Services "Making Children's Lives Better" Award, Salpointe's "Faith in Action Award," TMM Family Services "Eugene Mackaben Community Service Award," and Meyer & Libby Marmis Humanitarian Award (Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona). Maré is part of the Greater Tucson Leadership program to advance her business and management skills taking The Ben's Bells Project to the next level in her strategic plan.
Leadership
Maré’s leadership skills are instrumental in generating excitement for the mission, and promoting volunteers to commit to the tasks necessary to move the organization forward. Through the pain of losing her child, Ben, she became acutely aware of her weaknesses as well as her strengths. She knows that she is not perfect; she leads others knowing that she is flawed and has actually found that her “realness” is what inspires. She surrounds herself with kind and talented people who bring out the best in each other. She leads from amongst those who are her collaborators rather than from the top down and strives to be positive, engaging and trustworthy in every interaction. In short, she tires to practice what she preaches – kindness in every interaction, no exceptions.
Mission
Ben’s Bells mission is to inspire, educate and motivate each other to realize the impact of intentional kindness and to empower individuals to act according to that awareness, thereby changing our world.
